Day 30

Bible verse: Colossians 3:23-24 – Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

I have gone through seasons in my life where I am completely on fire spiritually… and seasons where I can’t even open my Bible. I have tried to read my Bible in the evening and at lunch times and unfortunately it doesn’t work. There are too many distractions. Unless you are extremely disciplined, I recommend reading your Bible every morning. Why? I find that with young kids, I am completely wiped after they are tucked into bed. I have no resolve or energy to read the Bible and pray. Typically, I fall asleep talking to God when I am praying before bed. Why doesn’t it work at lunch time? Work will get in the way… or you will be invited out for lunch… and now you will have a routine that you stick to where you will be crushing your body at lunch time. Stick with the mornings. Your mind is fresh, and it is easy to implement and be consistent praying and spending quiet time with God before the day really gets moving. The other benefit is that you can pray for your day. Pray for your family. Pray for the people you work with. Pray for the meetings or interactions you will have that day. Pray that you will be a light to world. Before you begin reading your Bible or starting your devotional. Pray a simple prayer. Dear God, please speak to me through your words… please not only speak to me, but really transform my heart and my mind to grow closer to you.
