Day 35

Bible verse: Psalm 143:8 – Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you.  Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life.

I couldn’t sleep this morning. It is Saturday. A good day to sleep in. Instead, I was tossing and turning worrying about work and money. The usual things to lose sleep over. It also didn’t help that my 8 year had a nightmare last night and was in the middle of the bed hogging all the blankets. I prayed to God to help me trust in Him. Praying throughout the day grows our faith and builds trust in our Lord and Saviour. It is overwhelming at times to think we are in this alone. We have a big presentation at work, we receive an overdraft notice from the bank, we realize that the dance class our daughter wants to do costs a million dollars a year, the truck needs a new timing belt and the roof shingles are due to be replaced, we feel the pressure to provide for our families, to shoot the breeze at work, to seem professional and that we have it all together. These are the things that I find on my mind throughout the day. The things that I worry about. And, then I want to be a good husband and dad. I want to tell my kids amazing bedtime stories, but I fall asleep in their bed. Then, I really want to give my wife a backrub at the end of the day, but I am so tired that I fall asleep on the couch. Have you ever had that feeling that you don’t know if you have the strength to manage all your responsibilities? I know, I sure have. This leads me to prayer. Talking to God throughout every aspect of my day. Praying for salvation for my co-workers who are driving me up the wall; praying for every bill or expense; praying for my day and being specific about the items throughout the day; praying for my kids and my wife; praying for my Mom; my sisters and their families; my wife’s family; praying for my future; praying that I will be obedient; praying for forgiveness; thanking God for my health and my people and my world around me; asking for direction; thanking God for an adventurous life that isn’t tedious and boring; praying that God will fill my heart and my home with his joy, goodness, love, and spirit. Pray daily. Pray for everything. Pray always.
